Hi, I am Sudesh, a research scientist in the supply chain replenishment data science team of Chewy. Before joining Chewy, I was a senior operations research scientist at Optym, where I helped develop an optimization model for creating truck schedules in mining operations and designed metrics to evaluate the schedules, for congestion in the network.
After getting my bachelor's in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), I went to the University of Texas at Austin for grad school, where I got my master's in Transportation Engineering and in Operations Research & Industrial Engineering (ORIE). I also got my PhD in ORIE from there. My doctoral research focused on optimization models for anomaly detection in contact networks with unreliable detectors, with applications in COVID-19 related surveillance testing and vaccination strategies.
In between my first master's and PhD, I briefly worked at Optym India Pvt. Ltd. on several projects: pickup and delivery, C# wrapper interface for optimization solvers, locomotive scheduling, etc. I also have interned at Sabre in 2019, and at Amazon in 2020 and 2021. As a revenue management intern at Sabre I explored the attractiveness of alternative shopping itineraries to improve myopic demand forecasts for air bookings. And as a research scientist intern at Amazon I developed the same-day pallet volume forecasting model that Amazon uses at its sort centers and reformulated their aircraft schedule recovery model to make it customer centric and minimize missed delivery packages.
I am passionate about singing (vocals and guitar), photography, drawing and latest technology. A few years ago, I started investing more time on photography.
